Day 6 - Mon 8: Gurley to Gilgandra

14-33 degC
Drive: 282km; total: 1178km

It was quite chilly this morning when we woke up. It was only 14 degC, but to us it felt a lot colder, so we stayed in bed a bit longer than usual. After a cuppa and packing up, we hit the road about 8:20am.

First stop was at Narrabri for two reasons - to have a wander and have breakfast. We decided to eat out for breakfast today and after a short walk we found a cafe called T-Table and the food and coffee was delicious. With big fat bellies we waddled back to the truck and van and continued south to Coonabarabran where we refuelled the truck (cheapest for a while). We also had some yogurt and fruit in the park.

Next stop was our final for the day. Reception was closed but there was a notice for us to choose a site and come back when they were open. So, we chose a drive-thru, stay connected site, set up and went for a wander into Gilgandra to visit the Coo-ee museum and Gilgandra Art Gallery. We also needed a few groceries.

The roads today were very much better than yesterday however, some of them certainly need a lot more work. Due to the recent much needed rain, the land was looking a lot greener than anticipated.

We fully intended to free camp for the two nights between Scarborough and Dubbo however, we stuffed up our calculations and drove too far on Sunday. So, we needed to fill-in half a day so stopped at Gilgandra to have a look around. Again, this is a place we have passed through on many occasions and not stopped except late one evening last year.
