Day 1: Wed 3 Apr - Home to Scarborough

19-23 degC, cloudy and rainy
Drive: 330km

As we only had a relatively short distance to travel today we were not in a hurry to leave, even though we were up just after 6am.

We finished cleaning the house and packing the van, then had a cuppa in the van. Whilst we were finishing up, our neighbour, Terry, 'saw the light on' so came in to say hi and bye. We sat and chatted for a while and decided that we should get moving and left Hippo Farm at 11am.

We didn't stop again until we were checked-in, just before 2:30pm, so not a bad run. We experienced some wild head and side winds and heavy rain so the fuel usage would have been pretty high.  The road appeared very slippery (there is enormous amount of heavy vehicles that use this highway) and at one stage we felt a bit of drift/sway, so Greg was very careful from then on, especially around corners.

After a quick lunch, we had an LLD then went for a walk around the van park to orientate ourselves. We could not go too far as there are little storm cells everywhere just to be a nuisance.  We're hoping for better weather tomorrow, but the forecast doesn't look promising.

This van park is choccas. Most of the sites are drive-thru (but not stay connected), and packed in like sardines. Will let you know in tomorrow's entry about noise, etc. There is not a lot of choice if you want to visit Brisbane though, so we'll reserve our comments until tomorrow, or when we leave! On the Park Rules, max stay is 6 weeks; we think some of these people have been here for longer than that

The Hippo Farm as we left

Our spot at Scarborough Holiday Village

For not even knowing that Majestic caravans existed, we now own a van that is almost as common a Jayco!  In Tin Can Bay, there was one other Majestic (a much older version) and here there are four others!! Wendy thinks we need to sell and buy something a little more exotic!
