Day 12 -Sun 14 Apr: Dubbo

14-29 degC, fine and sunny
Ride/walk: 11km

We went to the Zoo today. There were 14 of us in total so it was a little difficult to keep us all together or at least in sight. 10 of us were on bikes and the others hooned around in a buggy hired at the Zoo. We had a fantastic time and the kids were excited to see all the different animals. We managed to see (or get a glimpse of) almost every animal in the Zoo (we missed out on some of the monkeys and lemurs).

We were allowed to check into the Billabong Camp at 3:30pm so that's what most of us did and waited around for the rest of the guests. At 5pm we were given a briefing about the night's, and the next morning's, activities. Our family group was allocated to the "Koala" group. We did an Aussie walk which was a walk amongst the wallabies, koalas, quokkas and echidnas. No white light was allowed so we got to pat a wallaby under red light. An awesome experience for the kids who had never touched a wild animal before. We then had dinner and for those that wanted, went on another walk to see the dingoes and lion. Wendy didn't do this one and regretted it when she was sent a photo of a closeup of the lion - aaaagggghhh! Supper was had when all the groups had returned.

This zoo experience was a gift to Wendy from the family as part of her birthday celebrations. She will celebrate her actual birthday at Batemans Bay with her mum and dad.

Our accommodation was somewhat basic. It consisted of a tent with two camp stretchers and a small space in the middle. The stretchers had quite nice mattresses on them and nice bedding. The amenities block was a bit small for the amount of guests, and it wasn't even full! Some people had to queue for ages. There were no lights in the tents, so after we'd had our supper, we cleaned our teeth and were in bed shortly after.
