The conditions of the roads today was a lot better than it has been. We always thought NSW had better roads than QLD however, the ones we've been on lately are horrible - maybe due to the recent floods?
We had a leisurely pack-up today due to the short distance to travel. We left just before 9am and arrived in Wagga just before 10am, just in time for breakfast/mornos. We are staying at the Wilks Park free camp which is just a big dust bowl with potholes big enough to loose someone in, and break an axle. It is a huge area and we arrived just as many were leaving so we were able to choose a nice spot. We found a relatively level spot next to an old van and set up. It wasn't until we were leaving on the bikes that we saw the generator! As it turned out, as soon as were turned out our lights, he turned his generator off; not sure if it was just coincidental, or thoughtful?
We thought we'd ride around Wagga to see the sights. It is a big and very busy city. Not many people ride bikes in Wagga despite some infrastructure, hence the motorists were not as nice as in other towns and cities. So, in the end all we saw was the Cenotaph, Botanic Gardens (on top of a hill), National Art Glass Gallery and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. Not sure of there was anything else to see though. The Glass Gallery was quite good with many different 'arts' on display. The Art Gallery was dedicated to the mining era and consequently was decidedly awful; there was not one thing that either of us believed to be worthy of photographing.
Had an LLD then got ready to go to the Duke (pub) for dinner. We met one of Wendy's long-time friends - Allyson, and they have not seen each other since the end of 1992! It was great to catch up with her and meet her partner and two youngest kids. The meals were good and VERY big. The 1km walk home was just what we needed.
